Your privacy

We will not collect any personal information except where it is specifically and knowingly provided by the individual. We will keep your personal information secure and will not pass on your personal information to anybody unless you have specifically consented that we can so communicate your information. We will only store your personal information for the length of time required for the purpose for which it is collected.

We may share non-personal aggregate (group) data about our site visitors’ traffic patterns with partners or other parties.

Collecting your personal information

When you register, and in any visit subsequent to registration, we collect your information by asking you directly when you wish to use certain services e.g. e-mail.  During the registration process we require you to complete certain fields, request that you complete other fields and ask you to select a username and password so that we have sufficient information necessary to provide our services to you.

Your personal data is protected by the Malta Data Protection Act, the Council of Europe's Convention on data protection (1981) as well as the EU Data Protection Directive (EU/46/95). This provides amongst other things that the data we hold about you should be processed lawfully and fairly. It should be accurate, relevant and not excessive. The information should be kept up to date and not retained for longer than is necessary.

To make sure that you can control your personal information we enable you to:

  • View the personal information we hold about you;
  • Request that any personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant or out-of-date be amended or deleted;
  • Choose to stop using our services and have your personal information deleted, if such deletion is permissible by law and/or will not prejudice our position at law.

Security

We treat all data held with the utmost care and security. Any details you give will remain completely confidential. We shall not however be held responsible for any loss of data that occurs inadvertently and due to the bad faith of any third party. Transactions are authorised through a secure encrypted connection from the online application to the Bank using a digital Certificate. The site is hosted at Alert Communications. Alert Communications Ltd is PCI certified thus ensuring compliancy to card industry standards and best practices.

Legal requirements

We may be required by law to:

  • Disclose certain personal information for purposes of law enforcement or national security;
  • Store personal information for various periods of time (e.g. in connection with tax laws).

Malta Public Transport Services (Operations) Services Limited (MPT) respects your concerns about privacy and values the trust you have placed in it. This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, why we collect it and how we use it. By using our Wi-Fi service you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this Policy.

1. What types of information does MPT collect and use about me and how does MPT use the information?

We may monitor your use of our Wi-Fi service by recording how many times you use the Wi-Fi service, where you use it, at what times you use it, the quantity of data traffic and how long each session lasts.

This information helps us to build a profile of our users for statistical purposes and to improve how we provide our Wi-Fi service to you. Most of this data will be aggregated into groups, which means that we will not be able to identify you individually.

We may use your personal data for these purposes:

  • to enable you to connect to our Wi-Fi service
  • administration
  • research, statistical analysis and behavioural analysis
  • fraud prevention and detection
  • to notify you of any changes to our Wi-Fi service which may affect you
  • security vetting
  • improving our service
  • responding to your emails, submissions, questions, comments, requests and complaints

2. How long does MPT retain my information?

We retain your information as long as it is required for the purposes identified for such specific purposes.

3. Does MPT share the information it obtains about me with third parties?

The data is only shared with Transport Malta, the Government Authority for Transport in Malta, which is supporting this project.

We do not share personal information with other companies, organizations and individuals unless one of the following circumstances applies:

  • our partners (and their staff) who help us provide our Wi-Fi service to you.
  • our staff
  • government bodies and law enforcement agencies in connection with any investigation to help prevent or detect unlawful activity and in response to legal or regulatory requests
  • other third parties in connection with possible legal proceedings
  • share information or statistics with thirst parties in an aggregated or anonymous form that does not directly identify you. For example, we may share information with Transport Malta regarding the use of our Service.

4. Keeping your data secure:

We will use technical and organisational measures to safeguard your personal data, for example:

  • we store your personal data on secure servers
  • all our staff are aware that they must respect the confidentiality of your personal data

Whilst we will use all reasonable efforts to safeguard your personal data, you knowledge that use of the internet is not entirely secure and for this reason we cannot guarantee the security or integrity of any personal data which are transferred from you or to you via the Internet while using our Wi-Fi service.

5. Do we use cookies?

We do not use cookies.

We are not responsible for cookies stored on your device or hardware from websites you visit while using our Wi-Fi service.

6. How does MPT update its Privacy Policy?

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time and we will post those changes on this page.
